The GGU Strokeplay Championship was held at Sandyhills Golf Club on Sunday 11th July. A total of 54 players were on the draw for the competition, providing a challenging field for our second major competition this year. The weather was fairly settled and warm, but overcast for most of the day, with a few scattered showers in the afternoon.

The golf course is a beautiful challenging 18 hole parkland setting situated in Glasgow's East End near Mount Vernon, just 10 minutes from Glasgow city centre, that offers a very fair test to golfers of all abilities. The course was in superb condition with many complimentary comments from all the players. The GGU would like to thank the Captain of Sandyhills Golf Club and his committee for hosting the event and their great hospitality during the day.

The winner with a two round total of 135 was Gordon Sangster of Cathkin Braes. A first round -5 under par 65, put him in a great position after the morning round, and a steady par round in the afternoon meant the 2008 and 2013 GGU Matchplay Champion was able to collect his first Strokeplay title.

In second place was Craig Moran of Bishopbriggs with a -3 under total of 137, and third place was Thomas Martin of the host club Sandyhills with a 1 over total of 141.

Congratulations to all our winners, the full scoreboard and prizewinners list can be viewed from the link at the top of the page.

Thank you to all the players who entered the event, the top 16 players will now go forward to the MatchPlay Championship to be held at Ralston Golf Club starting on 20th July.
