The 112th GGU Glasgow Open Championship was held at Gailes Links on Sunday 14th August. It was a beautiful day. There was a very gentle breeze and plenty of warm sunshine.
There was a strong field of 75 competitors in the 36 hole competition. The course was in fabulous condition, and the range balls provided on the practice ground were an added bonus.

Congratulations to Neil MacRae of Glasgow Golf Club who had 2 rounds of 66 and 69 for a -7 under total of 135 to win the GGU Glasgow Open Championship title. Neil's morning round of 66 included 6 birdies and just 1 bogey, and once this score was posted, it remained at the top of the leader board for the rest of the day.

In second place was Steven Stewart of Clydebank & District Golf Club with a 2 round total of 139, and in third place was Greg Watson of Dunaverty Golf Club with a total of 141.

Many thanks to all the players who took part for supporting the competition, and a big thanks also to everyone at Gailes Links for making this a very memorable event.

The Glasgow Open Championship

The origins of The Glasgow Open date back to the last decade of the nineteenth century when the Parks Department of the Corporation of the City of Glasgow purchased a handsome trophy in the form of a silver club to be played for annually. Initially the competition was played over the courses owned by the City in particular Alexandra Park but as the 20th century developed it came to be played at other venues such as Hayston, Erskine, Cawder and Cathkin Braes. In more recent times, and for many years, Pollok Golf Club, has hosted the event. Now Gailes Links joins the list of venues to enjoy the privilege of hosting the prestigious Glasgow Open Amateur Championship. View the GO history here
