The 2023 GGU Strokeplay Championship was held at Ralston Golf Club on Sunday 14th May. The competition was a 36 hole event open to players whose home club is affiliated to the GGU.
The course was in superb condition and credit is due to the work of the Ralston greens team.
Congratulations to the winner Alan Waugh of Cowglen Golf Club with a winning total of 68-73 = 141. Alan retains the title he won last year at Cawder, taking just 1 stroke more than his winning total last time. His steady play in both rounds ensured he completed a memorable double and he becomes Strokeplay Champion for 2023.
In second place came Fraser Grant of Ralston with a total of 143. Fraser had the chance to win the title outright on the 18th green of the second round, but watched as his birdie putt slipped by and narrowly missed the return.
Meanwhile, Gordon Sangster of Cathkin Braes came back from a first round 74 to add a 70 in the afternoon and finish in 3rd place with a 144 total.
The current Matchplay Champion plus the first 15 players with the lowest 36 hole aggregate will qualify for the Matchplay Championship to be held at Sandyhills Golf Club w/b 22nd May, details and draw to be announced shortly.
Many thanks once again to everyone at Ralston Golf Club for hosting the Strokeplay event, and to all the players who supported the competition.
