Stephen Machin (President 2023).

We are saddened to announce the sudden passing of our President Stephen Machin. 

Stephen joined the GGU Executive in late 2008 as the representative of Cowglen G C. He became the A Team Manager in 2009 and continued in this role till he was asked to be Vice President by Jim Wilson in 2020. Stephen followed Jim as President in October 2022 where he enjoyed his role with enthusiasm and kindness.

Stephen played his golf at Cowglen G C , Glasgow G C and Royal Troon , where he won the Club Championship in 2022. He secured the GGU Matchplay on two occasions 2011 and 2012 and the Strokeplay back in 1987. After he turned 55 he continued his success as a Senior and won the GGU Seniors Championships in 2021.

He was a stalwart of Glasgow A Team, playing for many years in the West of Scotland Leagues and representing Glasgow at the Area Team Championships while also being the team manager and Seniors Area Team Championships recently. 

Most importantly our thoughts are with his wife and family at this time. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Stephen Machin’s Funeral will take place on Friday the 7th July at 10:00am in St Brides Chapel, Plathorn Drive East Kilbride, G74 1NN

This will be followed by the burial at Phillipshill Cemetery, 194 Westerfield Road, G76 9HS.

The family would like everyone to know that golf clothing will be welcomed at Stephen's funeral by anyone who wishes to wear it.

This could be club team or representative clothing ( Brand Putter , Lanarkshire league, Donald Cameron etc) County or National Team/representative clothing or just every day golf wear.

The family feel that this is what Stephen would have wanted given what the game meant to him.

Thereafter the family invite all to join them at Cowglen G C for food and refreshments.
