Congratulations to Corey Payne of Cathkin Braes who is the new Junior Order of Merit winner this season. It makes it two in a row for Corey, who was also the winner in 2024. Great work Corey and well done once again.
Glasgow Golf Club celebrated double success in the Annual Boundary Bell event held at Bonnyton Golf Club on Sunday 31st August. On a very breezy day weather wise, Glasgow recaptured the Boundary Bell with a 5-3 vistory over Cathkin Braes this year's Brand Putter league winners. It's a title they have won 4 times now and means they go forward to the Inter Cities Cup at Lenzie Golf Club against the winners of the Edinburgh Golf League (tbd)
The Juniors of Glasgow also came out on top in their Wee Boundary Bell match against Cathkin Braes juniors, this year's Fleming Watson league winners. After the 5 games in the match finished all square, Glasgow won at the first play off hole. They have now claimed this title 3 times in it's short history and can be proud of this special acheivement.

On a warm sunny day at Gailes Links the Scottish Seniors Area Team Championship took place. The golf course is in great condition and was thoroughly appreciated by all the players. The Glasgow team consisted of John Laurie, Colin Peddie, Gary Murphy, David Gravil, John Wilkes and Brian Gray
This being a national competition a high quality field assembled representing 14 Areas. The Glasgow team performed well finishing in fourth place mirroring the success of the GGU ‘A’ team who are one of the 4 finalists at Scottish Area Team Championships shortly to be held at Elgin.
So the Glasgow teams continue to perform well in the upper echelons of golf in Scotland.
On a day of high drama at Cathkin Braes the GGU ‘A Team’ successfully negotiated a very tough section and qualified for the Scottish Area Team Championship Finals at Elgin in early September.
To be able to do so Glasgow had to beat Ayrshire, one of the largest Areas, and hope that The Lothians defeated Perth and Kinross at West Lothian Golf Club.
The Glasgow effort started well winning the morning Foursomes 2.5-0.5. This was a significant advantage going into the afternoon six singles. These matches were drawn 3-3 meaning that the overall result was Glasgow 5.5 to Ayrshires 3.5, an excellent result.
The other part of the equation started very well for Perth and Kinross winning their morning foursomes convincingly 3-0. Very few Areas have been able to recover from such a poor start but full credit to The Lothians, playing a ‘dead rubber’ after losing their initial 2 matches, got stuck in and remarkably won the singles 5-1. This result eliminated Perth and Kinross but also Ayrshire and Glasgow eased to the Finals

England’s John Kennedy was today crowned Scottish Senior Men’s Open champion – after a monster birdie putt on the penultimate hole helped him get over the line. The Durham-based golfer posted rounds of 67, 70 and 72 for a four-under par total at Montrose Golf Links and a two-shot win ahead of his nearest challenger, Glasgow Golf Club’s John Laurie. In fact, Laurie and Kennedy were locked together in the lead at three-under par facing similar birdie putts on the 53rd hole.
By that stage the third member of the final group, England’s Rupert Kellock, had drifted out of the picture. Kellock had held the overnight lead and still had a two-shot advantage going into the back nine before a run of dropped shots saw him fall away. But while the Sunningdale golfer faltered, Laurie and Kennedy were tied for the lead until the championship’s defining moment.
While Laurie (pictured above) left his birdie putt five foot short, Kennedy, representing Consett Golf Club, drained his from 30 feet.

The 2nd Boys County Match versus Ayrshire took place on Sunday the 15th of June at Irvine Bogside. The course, which is a well-known Championship standard venue, is in excellent condition and the greens putted admirably. The matches teed-off in blustery rainy conditions which fortunately abated as the day wore on, it dried up and the sun appeared occasionally. This was a day which saw many of matches swing one way then another but eventually a pattern merged of the Home Team making full use of a Home tie to develop a commanding position on the scoreboard eventually recording a good victory.
Both sides were unable to play 'first team choices' due to absences through holiday and Father's Day commitments and Glasgow unfortunately experienced a last minute withdrawal through food poisoning and had to concede the first U18 match. Three new Members this year of our Squad - Seumas MacCuish, Glasgow Golf Club, and Zac Fullerton & Lennon Caskie, both of Cathkin Braes played for their County for the first time in this Tie and acquitted themselves very well. Glasgow won one match - Charlie Richardson and halved two others - Jayden Kinnear and Cameron Burns.

The second match of the 2025 season was held at Crieff on Sunday the 8th of June.
The golf course was in excellent condition and the match was played in sunny and breezy weather.
The host team presented a strong group of players and they performed impressively to beat beat Glasgow 7.5 to 1.5
The foursomes were lost 3-0 and the singles lost 4.5 to 1.5
The foursomes were closely contested in 2 of the 3 matches but the singles saw strong performances by the home team with only the lead singles tie seeing a Glasgow victory.
Glasgow can still qualify but our fate is in the hands of others. The final qualifying matches take place on the on the 13th of July. Glasgow host Ayrshire at Cathkin Braes.
